Are you Prepared for Another Google Slap?
Posted on Aug 07, 2007 under Monetization |There are many individuals in the internet industry that were hit by the last Google slap that occurred recently. It has changed the way that many web developers are working with Google and has been greatly affecting the income stream of a number of websites that do not meet the new criteria that Google is using to determine the quality of the websites that they are placing advertising on or are listing in their search engine results. The latest Google slap took many individuals by surprise and has wreaked havoc with the finances of the websites that have been affected.
The latest Google slap that occurred focused on the quality of the sites that are using the Google programs for search or advertising purposes. Any site that was viewed by Google as being an improper site for its advertising programs found itself either kicked off of the Goggle programs or was much lower down on the list of relevant sites for search terms. Some specific criteria were used to determine the relevance of the site and whether it was a good match for the Google advertising programs.
The first thing that was reviewed by Google was the relevance of the website to the search terms that were used to pull up the website. In some cases, it was found that the actual content of the website was not relevant to the search terms and inspectors found that a large number of the websites did not have any comprehensible content at all, just long strings of keywords designed to trick Google’s software into thinking the website was a good one. These websites without relevant content found themselves removed from Google’s programs.
Any individual that developed one of these websites designed to trick Google’s programs rather than working with Google found themselves the victims of the Google slap. The websites that were affected are not earning the revenue from the ads and the search terms like they were previously, which is sure to hurt the company’s bottom line. There are things that you can do to prepare yourself and your website to avoid a Google slap and generate an income stream from your website.
One of the things that must be done to avoid a Google slap is ensure that the content that is placed on the website is valid and understandable. If Google determines that the content of the web page is not words or understandable sentences, it will sanction the site until it complies with the standards that Google has set for the websites that use their products. Until the website has become a site with valid content contained in it, the site will not earn any money from the Google programs that they have associated themselves with.
By exerting some control over the content of the websites that are earning an income from placing Google ads on the sites, Google is also ensuring that the search results that they are returning when a word, term, or phrase is searched are the most valid search results available. Websites that are filled with non-words and spammed search terms are a frustrating problem for the search engines and the latest Google slap is an effort to fix the problem. When working with Google, you can make a nice income, as long as you are not trying to trick the system.
